Hello and welcome to my first Bradford Chamber blog. Firstly I would like to introduce myself. My name is Darren Precious and I am the new Sales and Marketing Manager for the Chamber. It’s been 10 years since I last worked in Bradford and after a decades absence I was interested to see how the city centre had changed.
Earlier this week I made the short walk from the Chamber’s office in Little Germany to the city centre. The first and biggest change is the much discussed Westfield development. Whilst the city waits in anticipation of the work beginning, in its current state it does actually provide a pleasant walk to and from the office. Wandering through the City centre I was happy to see that Waterstones was still open as this was my one of my favourite lunch time locations! I was also pleased to see my old hairdressers so I treated myself to a weekend cut – same hairdresser same haircut but £3.00 more than in 2001 but I guess that’s inflation for you!
Whilst there have been a few new buildings and some shops/ restaurants have come and gone the one thing that does seem consistent is that businesses have many challenges to overcome to grow and be successful. What also remains true is the commitment and enthusiasm of people within the Bradford business community to see the City and its people prosper. No more so than the Chamber and its members.
Whilst the services provided by the Chamber in 2001 may have changed over the past ten years the principles of the Chamber are fundamentally the same as they were when it was formed in 1851 that the Chamber is here to help Bradford companies do business. I look forward to helping the Chamber achieve this.
