On Wednesday this week I had to make the two and a half hour train journey to London to attend a Chamber Recruitment training course. Whilst I would never describe myself as parochial I have never been a huge fan of travelling to the capital and even less a fan of travelling on the London Underground, finding it very hectic and somewhat ‘clammy’.
To avoid this mode of transport I decided that I would walk from Kings Cross to the training venue at the Bloomsbury Hotel. I am happy to admit that I am somewhat ‘geographically challenged’ however, armed with the Google Maps application on my phone, I was confident I could walk to the venue in time. Unfortunately, when I typed in the destination I made the elementary mistake of mapping my route as if I was driving to the hotel. After a twenty five minute walk around the one way system I found myself once again at Kings Cross Station. Realising my error I mapped the route this time on foot and managed to arrive just in time albeit missing out on the coffee and muffins (although if you read my earlier blog this may be a blessing in disguise!).
Despite this somewhat shaky start to the day things did improve. The training course was excellent and a reminder to me that good quality training is indeed an investment. I also managed to navigate back to Kings Cross without the aid of technology. On the journey home I decided to phone my 5 year old daughter who wanted to know two things. One: had I seen the Queen? and two: Had I bought her a present? As the answer to both these questions was no, she put the phone down leaving me to the mercy to a very dull banker from Horsforth.
